Healthy ecology – Healthy economics:
How the health of Great Salt Lake and the economic benefits of the lake go hand-in-hand.

The Great Salt Lake Advisory Council was created by the Utah Legislature to advise the administration and the legislature on sustainable uses of Great Salt Lake.  Thanks to a grant from The Nature Conservancy, the Council has completed two significant studies relating to Great Salt Lake.  The first study details an evaluation of the current health of the Lake, while the second study outlines the direct economic benefit the State derives from the Lake. These studies will be reviewed and the interrelationship of Lake ecological and economic health discussed.

Leland Myers is District Manager for Central Davis Sewer District and a member of the State Water Quality Board. He is currently the chair of the Great Salt Lake Advisory Council. Leland is a graduate of the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering and a Masters in Environmental Engineering. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Utah and California and is a certified Wastewater Collection and Treatment Grade IV operator. Most people know him as a fat guy who is way obsessed with sludge, sewer and toilets.
