This year's Great Salt Lake Bird Festival will take place on May 14 to May 18, 2009. Great Salt Lake Bird Festival is one of three "Linking" Festivals that
includes Saskatchewan, Canada and San Blas, Mexico. These Festivals
share common birds and habitat types. The Linking organization is
involved with student education and teacher exchanges and research that
promotes range wide migratory bird habitat and species conservation. The Keynote Speaker this year is Scott Weidensaul. Author and naturalist Scott Weidensaul has written more than two dozen books on natural history, including Living on the Wind: Across the Hemisphere with Migratory Birds, a Pulitzer Prize finalist; The Ghost with Trembling Wings, about the search for species that may or may not be extinct; and his most recent book, Of a Feather: A Brief History of American Birding. He lectures widely on wildlife and environmental topics, and is an active field researcher, specializing in birds of prey and hummingbirds. He lives in the Appalachians of eastern Pennsylvania. Once again Great Salt Lake Bird Festival offers a wonderful program spotlighting birding areas in northern Utah in guided field trips, including several new trips. There is a variety of workshop topics offered including Joy Bossi, from KNRS 570's ‘Joy in the Garden' program, Legacy Parkway Scenic Byway program, Ogden Nature Center bird program, bird identification, and a great Dutch oven dinner with Scott Weidensaul. We invite you to come to the Great Salt Lake Bird Festival. Festival program booklets are available, call 801-451-3286 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
