FoGSL Is Now Accepting Applications for the 2010 Doyle Stephens Scholarship PDF Print E-mail

FRIENDS invites all undergraduate and graduate students studying the Great Salt Lake Ecosystem to apply for the 2010 Doyle Stephens Scholarship.

The Doyle Stephens Scholarship was established to celebrate Doyle's remarkable scientific contributions toward understanding the Great Salt Lake Ecosystem. This scholarship provides support to undergraduate or graduate students engaged in new or on-going research that focuses on Great Salt Lake and its ecosystem. The award may be used to support laboratory or field research, attendance at professional meetings, or other activities that further the understanding or protection of the Great Salt Lake Ecosystem. Research located anywhere in the Great Salt Lake watershed can qualify for this award.

Qualifications: Applicants must be undergraduate or graduate students currently enrolled at an accredited college or university who have not previously received this award.

Selection of Award Recipients: For 2010, FRIENDS will give one $1,000 award. Applications will be judged by the following criteria: 1) Probability of successful completion of the proposed research (based on a transcript from the student's currrent institution, letter of support, and feasibility of the project); and 2) Potential contribution of the proposed research to the protection, preservation or understanding of the Great Salt Lake Ecosystem.

Scholarship Recipient Requirements: The recipient will present their research findings to the FoGSL membership either as a presentation at a general membership meeting and/or as an article in our quarterly newsletter.

Application Deadline: March 5, 2010

Applicants will be notified of a decision by April 15, 2010. The winner will be presented with the award at the Issues Forum (the 2010 Issues Forum will run from April 29th through May 1st).
